After he was married, Reuben and Joyce moved to Sydney for work. They then moved to Dungog where Reuben built their first house himself.
Although he had a quiet nature, reuben was a very keen and well-respected lawn bowler and an avid dancer, in both old-time and American Ballet dancing. He was also an avid reader.
In his later years Reuben lived with his daughter, Marie, and son-in-law Tom, and often helped out in their shop.
