(3) Obituary....LARGE CONGREGATION'S LAST RESPECTS TO MRS.E.DAY.....Well
Liked Boomey Womans Funeral.....There was a large congregation present in the
Methodist church on Saturday morning to pay tribute to the late Mrs. Laura May
Day, aged 57 years, wife of Mr E.Day of Boomey. The service in the church was
conducted by Rev. C.W. Ritchie and opened with the singing of "Nearer My God to
Thee". In the course of his address Rev. Ritchie said that the late Mrs.Day was
known for her gentle and thoughtful way. She did good quietly and unobtrusively,
she was a devoted wife and mother. It seemed hard that now that the members of
her family who had served overseas with the force were home she should be
taken, for she had looked forward to their homecoming with such anticipation of
happy times to come. The family would be comforted by the remembrance of a
loving mother . Mrs.Day was a devotee of her church, and there nourished her
quiet but confident Christian faith. "A lover of the beautiful, Mrs.Day took
delight in her garden. Now the Divine Gardener has plucked a choice bloom, but
the fragrance of her life remains", Rev. Ritchie concluded. After the singing of
"Jesus, Loved of My Soul" and the Benediction, Miss J.Hull, who presided at the
organ, played "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" as the coffin was carried from the
church. Rev.C.W. Ritchie also officiated at the graveside. There were many
beautiful floral tributes. Mrs. Day was born and lived her life in Molong
district. Mr. Day has been resident here for 40 years. There are three sons, Roy
and Norman (both AIF) and Percy. A daughter, Elsie May died Eight years ago.
